Cookies policy
Information about cookies and third-party services on this website.
Last updated: 31/10/2026
1. Cookies and similar storage
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. Websites may also use browser storage, such as localStorage, to remember preferences. This policy explains our use of these technologies and optional Google services.
Google Maps and Google reCAPTCHA remain disabled until you enable the relevant service in our privacy settings. You can accept or reject both services, or choose them separately.
2. Language preference
Our website may set a first-party cookie named NEXT_LOCALE to remember your choice of Greek or English. It is used for language selection, not advertising.
Under our current configuration, this is a session cookie. Its removal depends on how your browser ends or restores browsing sessions.
We also store your privacy choices in your browser's localStorage under the key katoikia-privacy-v1. This records whether you enabled Google Maps and Google reCAPTCHA, together with a timestamp and preference version. We treat the saved choice as valid for up to 180 days, after which we ask again when the website loads. This storage is used to remember your choices, not for advertising.
3. Google reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA v2 Invisible to protect our contact form from automated submissions. Google resources load only after you enable reCAPTCHA in privacy settings and visit the contact form. Verification runs when you submit the form, and an additional challenge may appear.
Google states that reCAPTCHA sets the _GRECAPTCHA cookie for risk analysis. Google may also process technical information and interactions with the service. Other Google cookies may be involved when its resources load.
You can leave reCAPTCHA disabled and contact us directly by email or phone instead.
For information about Google's processing, see the following links.
4. Google Maps and external links
Our accommodation page includes an optional Google Maps embed. The map loads only after you enable Google Maps in privacy settings. Once loaded, Google receives technical information, including your IP address, and may use cookies or similar technologies.
If Google Maps is disabled, we display a placeholder and an external directions link instead.
Links to Google Maps, Airbnb, Booking.com and any social profiles take you to external websites. Their own privacy and cookie policies apply when you visit them.
We have not added analytics or advertising tools to this website.
5. Managing your choices
You can accept or reject optional services, or enable Google Maps and Google reCAPTCHA separately. You can reopen Privacy settings from the footer to change your choices at any time.
Disabling a service removes its embedded component and prevents it from being loaded on subsequent visits while that choice remains saved. Reload the page after withdrawing consent to clear scripts already loaded in the current page.
Withdrawing consent does not undo information already sent to a provider or automatically delete cookies previously stored by that provider. You can manage or delete cookies and site storage through your browser settings.
Deleting the saved privacy preference causes the website to ask for your choices again. Blocking browser storage may prevent your choices from being remembered between visits.
6. Updates and contact
We update this policy when our website's use of cookies changes. For information about the operator, personal data and your rights, please read our Privacy Policy.
